ADIBEAM Abstract—the increase in navigation accuracy demanded by EGNOS and Galileo and their future evolution encourages the study and design of advance receiver architectures. In that direction, the ADIBEAM project focuses on the design of high accuracy ground stations, specifically GNSS Reference Stations, in order to improve its robustness in front of multipath and interference errors with the goal of achieving centimeter level tracking accuracy. The adoption of antenna arrays and digital beamforming at the ground reference station receivers is one of the most promising approaches to cope with errors induced by multipath and interference.

Multiple input multiple output techniques combined with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) provide a promising approach for wireless systems. However, a serious drawback of the OFDM system is the high peak-toaverage power ratio (PAPR), which may severely affect the power efficiency of RF power amplifiers. In this paper, we propose a simple method to reduce the PAPR of MIMO-OFDM signals based on the use of unused subcarriers. Instead of processing the signals at each transmitter separately, a peak cancelling signal is generated at one antenna and is then applied to all the others with only simple modifications. Simulation has shown that a minimum 2 dB reduction in PAPR can be achieved for all transmit signals using this approach. As the signal processing is nearly all done at a single transmitter, repetition of the operations at each transmitter is avoided, and therefore the overall cost of the system can be significantly reduced.

One issue with underwater sensors is how to efficiently transfer large amounts of data collected by the node to an interrogating platform such as an underwater vehicle. It is often impractical to make a physical connection between the node and the vehicle which suggests an acoustic or optical wireless solution. For large amounts of data, the high bandwidth of underwater optical wireless is an advantage. A small, low-cost platform to demonstrate the potential of an optical wireless communications interface for underwater sensor nodes is demonstrated. To enhance the reliability and robustness of the optical wireless communication digital signal processing and error correction techniques are used. The system was tested in 3 and 7.7 meter tanks at 5 Mbps with the turbidity of the water controlled by the addition of Maalox.
